Q : What is the average shelf life of an MRE?

A : MREs have an Inspection Date. MREs typically last, or taste their best at 3 to 5 years stored in the right conditions.

Q : What is the best way to store a MRE?

Q : Can you put a MRE in a microwave?

A : Do NOT put MRE packaging in the Microwave. You can remove food contents from packaging and place on a proper microwaveable dish. We do no recommend using the microwave to heat your MRE. A Flameless Ration Heater works best to heat and contain moisture to your meal.

Q : How does a Flameless Ration Heater work?

A : When water is added to a Flameless Ration Heater (FRH) it creates a water-activated, exothermic chemical reaction. During this reaction, water quickly reaches its boiling point to heat your MRE to the perfect temperature. A FRH can reach over 100+ degrees Fahrenheit in as little as 12 minutes. The FRH contains a food grade iron, magnesium, salt, oxygen and water that when mixed together create a safe, chemical reaction that will heat your MRE. Do NOT expose your unused FRH to any heat or flames before using, the iron & magnesium may cause combustion of the FRH. Do Not pour your MRE components into the FRH. Please read your FRH for all instructions before use.

Q : What happens if you overfill a Flameless Ration Heater (FRH) with water?

A : Do not overfill a Flameless Ration Heater. Adding more water than preferred amount will not make it hotter. Too much water will cause the ration heater pouch to burst open from added pressure.

Q : Can you eat a MRE cold?

A : MRE’s are pre-cooked meals making them safe to eat straight from the package, warm or cold. (But we recommend heating, depending on the Entree with the Flameless Ration Heater (FRH))

Q : Are MRE’s good to take Camping / Hiking / Hunting / Fishing?

A : Absolutely! MRE’s are great for anyone! Especially who are in Rural Locations, Off-Grid or are Locally / Internationally Traveling.
